Repair of ignition keys and locks
We repair ignition keys and door locks if the key sticks or does not go in.
About the service
When the key turns with difficulty or sticks, many suspect the ignition switch and prepare for an expensive replacement. Often the cause is simpler: after years of use the metal of the key wears down, the cuts round off and the pins in the cylinder no longer land where they should. In addition, dust and moisture get into locks over time.
Instead of cutting a new key from the worn one, we read the factory code and make a key with the exact factory dimensions, so that it fits like on the first day. Do not oil or grease the lock, because more dirt sticks to it. There are special sprays and powdered graphite for that.
When you need it
- The key turns with difficulty in the ignition.
- The key does not go all the way in or sticks.
- The door lock does not unlock.
Why trust us
We first check whether the problem is in the key, before talking about anything more serious. In the case described in the blog, the new key was cut by factory code in about 15 minutes in the atelier, at the price of an ordinary copy, and no cylinder replacement was needed. This way you do not pay for a part that is not broken.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to replace the ignition cylinder if the key is hard to turn?
Not always. Often the cause is a worn key. In the blog we describe a case where replacing the cylinder was not needed.
